Milton Hershey School, Hershey, PA

Milton and Catherine Hershey founded and funded this rural/suburban residential school in 1909 “to nurture and educate children in need.” Approximately 1,800 children, ages 4-18, live in a family environment with eight to twelve students of the same gender and age group. The school provides free education, housing, food, clothing, medical assistance, and post secondary scholarship funds for eligible graduates. The school seeks to serve younger children with little or no parental or family support, based on the belief that these children have the most to gain from the long-term stability and support the school offers.
