HopeTree Family Services, Salem, VA

Begun in 1890 by the action of the Baptist General Association of Virginia as the Baptist Orphanage of Virginia, the agency has evolved into a statewide multi-program human services agency. Residential services are provided for at-risk youth ages 12-18 with a total of 96 beds. The Salem residential campus includes: Gus Mitchell School, a licensed secondary school granting high school diplomas; a residential program with 58 beds. The Wilderness Outdoor Opportunity Discovery Schools (WOODS) offer more highly structured self-contained residential educational services on two additional campuses: Boys Camp on Craig in Craig County and Girls Glory Road Camp in Henry County, each with 24 beds. In addition, HopeTree operates a statewide foster care program for at-risk children and youth, including maternity foster care, and a statewide Developmental Disabilities Ministry providing day-support, in-home services, respite services, and 17 group homes for adults with intellectual disabilities.
