Nicholette Smith-Bligen is the Executive Director of CORE.
An advocate and leader with over 20 years of experience in child welfare, youth development, education and mental health, Mrs. Smith-Bligen has focused her career on the educational and social advancement of children and youth in underserved communities. Prior to joining CORE, she was the Chief Operating Officer of Sasha Bruce Youthwork and the Chief of Staff at DC Children and Youth Investment Trust Corporation. She has also held senior leadership positions with the District of Columbia’s Child Welfare Agency.
As a strong believer in opportunities for success, Mrs. Smith-Bligen is committed to ensuring that CORE continues to promote and support Residential Education programs across the country by building opportunities for all youth, regardless of their background. She values excellence in education as a CORE standard and a path to achieving one’s goals.
Mrs. Smith-Bligen holds a dual bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Administration of Justice from Virginia State University and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Yeshiva University, Wurzweiler School of Social Work. She also holds an Executive Certification in Municipal Management from George Washington University’s Center for Excellence. She currently serves as Vice Chair of Martha’s Table, Inc. in Washington DC. She additionally sits on a variety of committees and taskforces supporting children and youth services nationally.
