Capacity-Building through Collaboration
Annual National Conferences
National Conferences
CORE brings together heads of programs, senior staff, and direct care residential staff (houseparents), founders, and supporters from residential education programs across the country. Hosted by a CORE member program, with a primary theme chosen by the membership, the conference provides time for networking, professional practices workshops, tours of the host program, and keynote speakers. The conference creates a sense of community among those who work in the field. Members enjoy a significant registration discount.
Webinars and Leadership Development Opportunities
CORE hosts several webinars each year on a variety of topics selected by and most pertinent to the membership. Featuring notable outside speakers and experts, webinars provide an effective and inexpensive way for residential education programs to gain valuable information and techniques, respond to successes and challenges, and discuss trends and issues of concern.
Email Listservs and Queries
CORE manages three specialized electronic listservs for the exclusive use of members. These listservs provide a forum for networking, sharing practices, and important CORE announcements. They connect members from across the country in an online community by roles: heads of programs, senior staff, and direct care residential staff (houseparents).
Members may also pose questions or request information on specific topics that are sent out through the listservs. Whether a simple question or more extensive suggestions on how to start a new program component, members are encouraged to send out queries in an effort to share promising practices. Past examples of queries include:
- “What is your program’s cost of care?”
- “What is your program’s staffing patterns in regards to houseparent scheduling and time-off?”
- “In light of recent economic challenges, is your program serving more homeless youth? If so, in what ways?”
